MBDA Case Study: Andy Allen MBE Head of Land Domain UK SBD
Andy joined MBDA after serving 30 years in the British Army – retiring as a Colonel. Commissioned into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Andy specialised in aviation engineering, acquisition, guided weapons and logistic support; mainly in the Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S). In his final years of Service he was a Protect Team Leader in the Helicopter Operating Centre DE&S and Chief Air Engineer/Assistant Director Operations Support in the Joint Helicopter Command. Following his Guided Weapons MSc in 1996, he worked on Milan, Swingfire and Medium Range TRIGAT. He has also served in the people training and development environment and NATOs HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. In 2012, he completed a Defence Career Partnering – a sabbatical in industry. Operational service included Iraq and Afghanistan.
Joining MBDA within Sales & Business Development was an opportunity I just could not resist. At first I was the Win Team Leader for the exciting Brimstone on Apache campaign, which included elements of fast jet, UAV and export possibilities for Brimstone. But now I am Head of Land Domain UK SBD, dealing with all the Guided Weapon and Novel Solution opportunities in the Land Domain – a great challenge which I am thoroughly enjoying. MBDA’s values, ethos and corporate responsibility attitude mirrors much of what the Armed Forces are all about. Add to this how supportive the company has been of my circumstances, I count myself as very lucky to have joined MBDA and have settled in faster than I thought. Furthermore, career and training opportunities are there for the taking – MBDA certainly does invest in their people and are supportive towards voluntary and Armed Forces Reservist work. The recent MoD Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award exemplifies their support of our Armed Forces.
