Lincolnshire extends warm welcome to former Service personnel

Come and join other amazing Veterans as part of our team at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT).

There is a wealth of career opportunities at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) which provides a range of mental health, learning disability and autism support services across Lincolnshire.

One such Veteran who took the leap, was Lucy Holt. Lucy Served in the RAF across the UK for 10 years – in the Catering Squadron. Lucy is now an admin lead at LPFT. She decided she needed a change, so was drawn to the NHS, and the rest is history. Lucy says she has a great boss and a very supportive team. “It’s one big family, just like the Military. It’s a fantastic working environment. I work from home. The work-life balance is great. The lifestyle is much better than the Military; it’s amazing!”

Veterans’ network
There is a Veterans’ network in LPFT and the NHS in general, and it’s how Lucy got involved with the Invictus Games. Lucy went to The Hague and came away with three golds and a bronze! “The NHS was fantastic. I was given all the time off I needed for Invictus,” adds Lucy.

Elsewhere, William Fraser Served for 23 years as an RAF Medic, overseas and all over the UK. He left the Armed Forces in 2003 as he had reached the natural end of his Service career. He felt he was unable to progress any further, and his application to be re-posted closer to home to be with his family had been declined.

After a number of diverse roles within the NHS and the criminal justice system, Will joined LPFT as an access team practitioner. “We screen all referrals for children and young people. We make triage calls and identify if anything may have been missed, before referring or signposting the young person to the appropriate team or service to help them,” says Will.

The move to the NHS has worked well for Will. “You’re worried when you leave the Forces as to how Military people are going to be viewed by employers? Well, at LPFT and in the NHS in general, things have moved on enormously in recent years and we are much more valued than ever before”, he said.

Rewarding
“The NHS is rewarding; you get encouraging feedback from service users and their families; even members of the public. That feels quite different from being in the Military. It’s much more personal in the NHS. It offers more stability and flexibility; if you want to live and work in any particular area of the country, you can,” concluded Will.

LPFT is Veteran Aware, is a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and has achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award. It is also a member of the national Step into Health scheme.
