Merseyside Police

Merseyside Police

Off By Ed Hanna

Merseyside Police is a dynamic, challenging and rewarding place to work. We take pride in everything we do.

Our strategy is to simply put the communities of Merseyside first.

We are looking to recruit police community support officers who want to make a real difference to the community they serve. For ex-Military candidates, we understand how your skills, knowledge and experience will help us to gather intelligence and protect and reassure the public.

Retired firefighter, Andy Shotton, has been a PCSO for two years: “I retired from the fire service aged 50 – which is far too young to sit doing nothing. I knew I had so much still to give. I still wanted to help the public, help communities.

I wish I could get across how rewarding it is! You build a rapport with a community and you become a part of it.

The police need to know what’s going on in communities or we can’t do anything about it, and we’re a big part of how that intelligence is gathered. People talk to us about their worries, their problems and what’s going on in the area. It takes time to build that trust. I’ve become very attached to my area.”

Lee Warren has been a PCSO for 16 years and feels that people often don’t really understand what the role is about, saying: “When you’re out and about in a community that you’ve got to know, you can really make the role your own and make a difference to people. You get daily tasks from supervisors, but you know the area, so you can make choices about where you decide your help is most needed.

Communities need familiar faces. Part of building up trust is as simple as just being around. We need empathetic people who can build those relationships.”
