A new career at the heart of your community

With a population of over 800,000 people spread across more than 3,200 square miles, North Yorkshire Police covers one of the largest geographic areas of any police force in the UK.

And with that many people and communities to keep safe, we have plenty of career opportunities for those of all skills, levels and backgrounds.

From operational teams in frontline policing to our huge variety of police staff roles who provide vital support services to the whole organisation – there really is something for everyone.

Claire Ellis is our Logistics Manager and joined North Yorkshire Police in November 2019, just three days after leaving the Army.

Claire served 24 years in a range of logistics roles, travelling all over the world as she progressed from her first role in Germany to achieving Warrant Officer Class 1 and serving as Operations Officer at Dishforth just before she finished her army career.

Here’s how Claire made the transition from army to civilian life at North Yorkshire Police (NYP):

“As I was coming into my last few months of service, I spotted the Logistics Manager job at North Yorkshire Police on a job alert and reading through the description, I could see how all of my skills gained in the army would transfer across.

“I underwent two interviews and finally got the very happy news that I’d been successful. From there, it was a bit of a steep learning curve building my team and getting to grips with everything but I’ve honestly never looked back.

“I’ve had so much support from my colleagues at NYP and every piece of experience and skill I learnt from my time in the army has come in really useful.

“In policing, the role of my team and I is to support our operational frontline colleagues in everything they need to do their jobs and that’s almost exactly reflective of my role in the army.

“I have a fantastic team, some new, some who have been with the organisation a number of years, and we all pull together to achieve what we need to every day. I couldn’t do it without them.

“If you’re thinking about your next career after the army, I’d definitely recommend looking at North Yorkshire Police. There’s great opportunities here, the team understand the military and your many transferable skills and it’s a really enjoyable place to work.

“Have a look at our latest vacancies, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
