Vanguard – Helping hospitals to recover

Vanguard – Helping hospitals to recover

Off By Ed Hanna

The role of the healthcare professional has never been more important and as the UK continues to fight Covid-19 – and prepares to recover from it – that importance is only going to grow.

Vanguard is recruiting qualified nurses (with a current PIN) and ODPs (who are registered with the HCPC).

During the pandemic, the clinical team, and innovative infrastructure solutions offered by one UK organisation has helped the NHS to continue to deliver elective procedures under the most challenging of circumstances.

Vanguard Healthcare Solutions works alongside the NHS to provide short-term, but cutting edge, mobile and modular infrastructure solutions such as mobile operating theatres and endoscopy suites – as well as providing clinical nursing expertise – to supplement existing NHS resources during times of need.

That might be when a hospital needs more capacity to help drive down waiting lists, to provide alternative clinical space during refurbishment of theatres or other clinical spaces or even in an emergency. When they do, a Vanguard mobile or modular unit is brought onsite to provide high quality clinical space, becoming part of the hospital’s infrastructure on a temporary basis.

Solutions
Vanguard’s in-house team of nurses and operating department practitioners are an important part of the solution offered. They travel across the country for deployments in mobile units ranging from weeks to months or even years, depending on what the hospital needs.

They might find themselves working alongside NHS colleagues to deliver endoscopy procedures or a wide range of surgical procedures – both local and general – including ophthalmic, orthopaedic, oncology and gynaecological. The team works within Vanguard mobile or modular theatres or endoscopy suites but sometimes, as seen during the pandemic, are deployed within the hospital or elsewhere within the trust when needed. So flexibility is key!

It’s this need for flexibility and being prepared for the unexpected that has made working with Vanguard so appealing for many former Forces personnel.

Qualities
Clinical Contracts Manager, Scott Horsley, himself a former Army ODP said: “We count many ex-Forces personnel among our ‘ranks’ at Vanguard, and it’s an environment where they thrive. As there is an on-going need for redeployment to different areas of the country to where hospitals need our solutions meaning overnight stays away from the family and an ability to adapt quickly to new teams, methods and environments – all of which will sound pretty familiar to former Forces medics, I’m sure.

In our nursing, clinical management and ODP teams currently we’ve got former Army, RAF and Navy personnel and many of the skills and personal attributes they brought to their Forces careers are just the kind of qualities we look for at Vanguard.

Because of that need for flexibility, we’re looking for two skills from scrub, anaesthetics, recovery and endoscopy. For any Forces medics looking for their next career challenge, working with Vanguard is really rewarding, and never dull, that’s for sure.”
