ARMED FORCES COVENANT

ARMED FORCES COVENANT

Off By Ed Hanna

The number of organisations that have signed the Armed forces Covenant continues to grow. Each signatory is an expression of admiration and support for the Forces Family.

It bears repeating that: “The Armed Forces Covenant represents a promise by the nation that those who Serve or have Served, and their families, are treated fairly.”

The Armed Forces Covenant website lists all 407 local authorities in mainland Great Britain and four Northern Ireland councils as those that have pledged to uphold the Armed Forces Covenant. Thousands of other organisations have signed the Covenant, including businesses and charities.

This is not a pledge that should be taken lightly – and the fact that so many organisations, small and large, public and private, have signed it, should not be taken as a sign that it has become diluted.

Behind every signing of the Covenant will be a variety of commitments – and it’s worth keeping in mind that no organisation is obliged to get involved but that they do so out of respect for Armed Forces personnel and by extension, Service-leavers and Veterans.

Pledge
One example of how seriously organisations take their pledge, is illustrated by the work of the Faye Hammond Consultancy Ltd and Invictus Complex Care.

Registering with the Armed Forces Covenant is a way to actively attract staff with versatile and transferable skills from the Armed Forces into a predominantly civilian industry.

Faye Hammond is the owner and co-owner of Faye Hammond Consultancy Ltd and Invictus Complex Care, respectively. Both companies work alongside each other; one providing nurse led case management rehabilitation services to clients with personal injuries and the other delivering nurse led bespoke care packages for clients with injuries and ill health.

Across both companies there are opportunities for registered nurses, therapists, medics, office/admin staff as well as care staff/buddy support workers. Both Faye and her co-directors, Lena and Holly, are firm believers in engaging top quality staff across all roles. They are eager to engage with the Armed Forces Covenant in a meaningful and proactive manner through sharing employment opportunities as they arise.

Flexible opportunities
They value diversity, equality, and access to all, offering flexible opportunities to those with the relevant skill sets. As a Military wife, Faye appreciates the challenges of retraining and resettlement. As a nurse and rehabilitation co-ordinator, she also understands the need for appropriate employment opportunities for those with their own physical or mental health difficulties. The life experiences of Service personnel, in conjunction with their Military training and personal commitment, are values Faye finds equal to academic qualifications.

After such a turbulent 2020, they are predicting expansion into 2021 with a variety of roles opening up in various areas across the country and would be happy to discuss these with interested parties.

Service-leavers can lend their skills to any number of sectors and organisations. Corporate Solutions Logistics, recognise the value of “getting the right people” as they explain, here…

“Corporate Solutions Logistics (CSL deliver large-scale managed logistics solutions underpinned by in-depth analysis and expert implementation. A family owned and managed business, thriving since 1997, CSL have operating centres nationwide supporting long term contractual customers: the likes of Lidl, Smurfit Kappa, Vax and Amazon among others.

We ensure that we have a thorough understanding of a customer’s business through analytical techniques and cutting-edge systems. We then work closely with our customers to create logistics models that are suited to their specific requirements, both now and in the future. Going further, we then use our robust operational capabilities and extensive resources to efficiently and effectively implement each solution. Through this customer focus we build long term relationships with our customers.  Smurfit Kappa, for example, we have been working with since 2003.

Our people are the key to us providing exceptional service levels. We are always looking for the right people to join us and help us to grow, be that in operational management or Class 1 drivers. We believe in developing and retaining our team, so will provide required training (CPC) and our assessors/trainers are continually supporting our people to help them to excel. We have a range of career opportunities available and further information can be found at:

Elsewhere, founder of M8 Recovery, one of Scotland’s largest trailer and recovery businesses, Junior McManus, MIVR, explains why he made the decision to get involved with the Covenant, saying: “Here at M8 Recovery we signed up to the Covenant in response to the dedication shown by our Armed Forces.

Because of the sacrifices they have made during their selfless Service, it is only fitting that we try to give something back to them. We are always on the lookout for well trained and dedicated members of staff, not just in driving roles but in various other areas within the business, and we would be delighted to consider former members of the Armed Forces in any of these roles”
