We are recruiting for an Operations Manager for our client who is an operational consultant and specialist contractor within the water industry.

This role would be suited to someone with a logistics background.

The Operations Manager will report to the Business Lead but will have a clear service delivery responsibility to the Head of Drilling and the Head of M&E.

We want the very best Operational Support Manager that we can find, and we anticipate that the successful candidate is currently working as an Operations Manager in a medium sized civils business/specialist drilling business or has served in the Forces in the a logistics role and is itching to develop.

The successful candidate will be based in Wallingford however, may need to travel and stay throughout the UK, as required.

The Job

  • To work with all the project managers as part of a team but also to deliver a service to them to enable jobs to be delivered successfully.
  • To make sure that all work is mobilised effectively on site (equipment, QUENSH documentation, welfare) – on time, within budget, safely and with the customer’s needs firmly in mind.
  • To manage the workshop and yard facility to support operational delivery on site.
  • To manage the driving team along with taking responsibility for holding the CPC accreditation and managing drivers’ hours and truck maintenance
  • To manage the servicing and maintenance of all the relevant equipment and vehicles
  • To take overall responsibility for making sure all employees have the right training in place – using a parent company employee to manage the administration.
  • Working with the Finance Manager – make sure all the relevant insurances are in place and are costed to the job appropriately.
  • To go the extra mile to ensure that jobs are completed to the excellent standard required and to get repeat business from customers.
  • To take full responsibility for all the mobilisation costs and ongoing costs associated with “getting the job done” (such as off hiring equipment) – working hand in hand with the appropriate project manager – really owning site efficiency.
  • To ensure the highest standards of health and safety on all jobs and develop the team to produce great results in a timely, efficient, and safe manner.

Knowledge / Skills:

  • Have experience of working in an environment with large plant and equipment.
  • Be organised and a completer finisher – and never leave anything to chance.
  • Be able to work with and manage people effectively – this job is all about getting the best out of people and working as a team.
  • Be extremely commercial – understand profitability.
  • Have a track record in delivering great operational solutions.
  • Be competent at using Microsoft Office.

Education:

  • Be a CPC holder.
  • Have an engineering qualification.
