A change of uniform, but my Military adventure continues!

Off By Sharon Black

I’m Able Rating ‘Fred’ Perry, formerly Corporal Perry of the British Army.

I joined the Army in 2010, initially being assigned to 23 Pioneer Regiment as an aspiring Rifleman. Completing Herrick 17 as part of the Counter IED Task Force, Search. On promotion, I was posted to 29 Commando Regiment in Plymouth, spending five years attached to REME, procuring the stores required to keep the Regiment’s fleet of vehicles at high readiness to deploy globally.

Transfer
While I felt like I’d achieved a huge amount in my Army career, both travelling and meeting amazing people, I was looking for something different. Seeking new experiences and challenges I decided to apply to the Royal Navy. The transfer process was seamless and with help from the Inter-Service Transfer Team, I quickly began my Gunner training at HMS Collingwood in Fareham.

After six months of training, I was ready to deploy. Initially drafted to HMS Queen Elizabeth, I consolidated my new skills before heading to HMS Dauntless. Joining in America, during our operations we seized a huge haul of narcotics in the Caribbean. So far, I’m really enjoying it and believe I’ve made the right decision. Here’s to another 12 years…. In the blue!
