Hundreds of people lined the streets of Nottingham and Derby last week to welcome home the soldiers of 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (2 MERCIAN).
Soldiers from B Company, 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (3 MERCIAN), have finished their six-month deployment to Afghanistan, becoming the first members of Task Force Helmand to return home from Operation HERRICK 14.
It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce the death of a soldier from the 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Staffords), who was killed on Saturday 18 June 2011. The soldier was shot while on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj (North) District of Helmand Province and died of his injuries.
While on patrol in Helmand last week, Lance Corporal Ryder of 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (3 MERCIAN) witnessed a Warrior armoured vehicle trigger an IED, and the soldiers on board escape without serious injury.
