Blind veteran Billy has been nominated for a prestigious Soldiering On Award for his work with Blind Veterans UK. As well as receiving his own support from Blind Veterans UK, Billy is the charity’s Rehabilitation and Liaison Officer in the training and rehabilitation centre in Llandudno. His role sees him mentor and motivate their beneficiaries.
Blind Veterans UK held its annual Founder’s Day Awards this week with blind veterans honoured for a variety of special achievements. One of the winners was 93-year-old Eddie who was recognised for his outstanding work as an ambassador for Blind Veterans UK over the last year. He was nominated for the award by one of the charity’s community support workers Lorraine for his “unlimited enthusiasm and willingness to help Blind Veterans UK encourage others to receive support from the charity.”
It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from 104 Force Support Battalion, attached to 4 Close Support Battalion, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), died in Afghanistan today, Friday 21 September 2012.
