News article: 2 PARA plough on through snowy exercise

In the depths of a Northumbrian winter, soldiers from 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment ( 2 PARA ) are braving the snow to take part in Exercise Eagle’s Nest at Otterburn Ranges. The two-week-long training, which began last week, is designed so that troops can practise live firing, manoeuvring across hostile countryside, working with fire support from artillery and helicopters, and living in the field for prolonged periods.

Soldier from The Royal Scots Borderers killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier from The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland was killied in Aghanistan on Sunday 11 November 2012 by an ‘Insider Attack’ while in Patrol Base Shawqat, in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province.

Captain Walter Barrie killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Captain Walter Reid Barrie from The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 SCOTS) was shot and killed in an ‘insider attack’ at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Shawqat in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province on Sunday 11 November 2012.

Guardsman Karl Whittle killed in Afghanistan

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Guardsman Karl Whittle of The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital on 7 September 2012 having sustained gunshot wounds when his checkpoint was attacked by insurgents in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province on 14 August 2012.
