Pin up the bunting and roll out the barrel – It’s Armed Forces Day!

Enjoy the show of support by the Nation for its Armed Forces.

Today, Saturday 24 June 2023 is Armed Forces Day. Let’s hope it’s barbecue weather, since numerous events will be held around the UK to mark the occasion – with parades of Serving personnel, Veterans, Cadets and other uniformed organisations, as well as those smaller events put on by local businesses and families.

Armed Forces Day is a celebratory event that aims to showcase the part played by our Armed Forces in national life.

Although, wherever you live, there’ll be events to mark Armed Forces Day, there’ll be a major focus this year on Falmouth Harbour in Cornwall, since this has been given the honour of being the host town for 2023 and provides a focal point for festivities. The ‘National Event’, as it is called, promises to be a spectacular display featuring Armed Forces personnel and impressive Military assets – with the backdrop of the world’s third largest natural harbour and the sea fort, Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII to defend against invaders – and so it has!

Expect smiles and cheers and flags and flypasts. It promises to be a very special occasion.
