The Importance of Financial Education: How to Take Control of Your Finances

Lester Brunt has a longstanding history of working alongside the armed forces, whether that’s through the charitable work undertaken to support military charities, hosting the Financial Aspects of Resettlement military briefings, or the members of staff who are ex-military or are from military families. An increasing number of clients have served or are serving in the forces, and as a company, we very much pride ourselves on our family focus and our commitment to the wider services family.

Chris Knight and Robert Brunt are two of the presenters you may have seen hosting the Financial Aspects of Resettlement military briefings, an interactive presentation focused on financial awareness for military personnel transitioning out of the forces. Through these FAR briefings, Lester Brunt are able to empower and educate Service leavers on the potential financial avenues that become accessible upon resettlement. Chris, Rob and the Lester Brunt team are big advocates for financial education, ensuring everybody has at least a basic comprehension of the financial skills they need to succeed.

The best advice is bespoke and dependent on a multitude of factors. If you’re in a position to think about retiring, or leaving the forces, make sure you’ve crunched the numbers and are happy with where you’re heading before making the big decision. On the other side of the career journey, if you’ve only just joined the workforce, or are within your first five years in the military, the earlier you start planning for your future, the easier it is to do so. Speak to those colleagues who are further along in their careers and learn from their successes and also their mistakes.  If you’re somewhere in the middle, 15 to 20 years into your service, it’s never too late to take action if you haven’t already. There are many roads to prosperity and one must be taken, unfortunately, inaction leads nowhere.

Chris and Robert recently sat down together for a chat on the importance of financial education for service personnel and to answer some frequently asked questions.
