Warwickshire Police – an easy transition route within the Force

Warwickshire Police – an easy transition route within the Force

Off By Ed Hanna

Sergeant Sarah Etienne joined Warwickshire Police following a career in the Royal Signals. She says that the practical and teamwork skills she developed in the Military made her well-suited for policing, and helped with her transition into a new career. Hear more about her experience and why we welcome people from the Armed Forces in Warwickshire.

Sarah joined Warwickshire Police in 2014, transferring from a neighbouring police force. (Transferring between forces is a recognised career development route within the police.) Before this, she was a Ground to Air Radio Operator, working with the Joint Helicopter Force. As a Sergeant, Sarah manages and supports a team of officers on frontline duties, as well as attending incidents herself. These incidents can range from searching a rural area for a missing person through to responding to a serious assault in the town centre – and everything in between.

During her time so far at Warwickshire Police, Sarah has worked across the county with postings in Operational Patrol Unit (roads policing) and in Safer Neighbourhood Teams – helping to resolve problems, prevent crime and support local community issues.

Sarah says one of the things she enjoys most about working at the Police is the variety: every day is different, and the small size of the force in Warwickshire means that she can move around and get experience in very different teams and in a variety of civic and rural locations across the county.

She makes great use of her Armed Forces experience to make quick decisions, to be the first person in, use compassion and empathy to help communities and ensure she has her teammates’ backs no matter what.

Warwickshire Police has signed the Armed Forces Covenant. We warmly welcome people who bring the professional can-do attitude and strong teamwork ethos that comes from the Armed Forces. And whether you’re interested in a public facing role or playing your part behind the scenes, we have a range of career options available to help us in our commitment to preventing crime and keeping people safe in Warwickshire.
