Thames Valley Police (TVP) values and celebrates difference

Different people bring different perspectives, helping develop a better understanding and learning, leading to new ideas and solutions to challenging social issues that we face on a daily basis.

We’re working hard towards being a police force that truly reflects the communities we serve. Our region is increasingly diverse and it’s important our officers, staff and volunteers are approachable and relatable to our communities.

Supporting diverse recruitment TVP’s Positive Action and Engagement Team (PAET) focuses on
building engagement in underrepresented communities, encouraging people from ethnically diverse backgrounds to consider a career in policing. The team supports applicants through the recruitment process and works to improve retention by supporting ethnically diverse officers already in the force.
PC Pete Butt-Gow and member of the PAET, who was previously in the Military for almost 10 years said:

“Becoming a police officer was always my intention but I wanted some life experience first. I was raised in a multi-generation household where discipline and respect were important; this was elevated in the Military.

I wanted to serve the community and make positive impressions. I joined the PAET because I’m passionate about attracting new, diverse, talent into policing. We police a large, diverse population. To reflect the public we serve, our workforce should be equally as diverse.

To anyone looking at resettlement into policing: the transition is seamless – the skills you acquire during your Military service will more than prepare you for a career in policing.”
