Finchale, People + Learning = Success
Finchale is an organisation with 80 successful years of supporting local communities to make positive changes.
The charity is a specialist in providing education, training, employment and welfare support services to businesses and their employees, Veterans, those in Military service and their families and individuals with multiple barriers to social inclusion.
Our training schemes and apprenticeships respond to the needs of the people we work with to fulfil their training needs and prepare them for employment. We reinvest funding, trust and support into individuals who need a helping hand to reach their full potential. We specialise in supporting Veterans, disadvantaged young people and those furthest from the labour market.

As a recognised award-winning charity, we offer valuable support to Veterans, Service-leavers, Serving personnel, Reservists and their families. Finchale Group provide a range of training options, qualification pathways, financial workshops and full wellbeing support.
Our programmes are delivered by a team of experienced coaches who are able to provide support with employment and wellbeing and are navigators that provide additional support and signposting.
The Armed Forces team has an ethos of ‘Veterans supporting Veterans’. (The majority of our team have Served themselves and the wider team includes spouses of Military personnel across all three Services.) We have an in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by Personnel and their families.
In addition to employment and training we offer ongoing support for people to improve integration into their local communities, improve family life and sustained wellbeing, mentally, physically and financially.
Our programmes can be delivered face-to-face and/or online. In-person delivery takes place at our HQ, Richard Annand VC House or at our construction academy. Our bespoke virtual learning environment has over 300 courses and we work in partnership with industry specialists to deliver courses in construction, fitness, horticulture and management.
Transition affects the whole family. Unlike other charities we are not simply ‘Veteran centric’. We are unique in the North East as we are the only charity that can offer this 360-degree support covering education, training and employment needs while also delivering wraparound health and wellbeing support.
- Ensuring successful transition into civilian employment and lifestyle.
- Creating an action plan for their discharge.
- Looking at aspirations to move into employment or to go into business or retire or volunteer.
- Assistance in planning learning and development insuring that they use their ELCAS/SLC/Resettlement Grants to enhance their career prospects.
- Providing clients with ongoing updates as they come online from construction and management through to becoming a personal fitness instructor.
Finchale has an extensive programme of wraparound wellbeing activities from cookery and floristry to gardening and beyond!
We provide family support, activities for spouses and significant others, as well as children and young people only activities. These are centred around themes such as mindfulness, wellbeing or moving towards sustainable employment. Activities are designed to promote self-confidence and overcoming stress and anxiety and opportunities to bond with others. Through our wider provision we can also offer functional skills for people that have experienced disrupted education and apprenticeships and that support people into employment.
