Are you leaving the Armed Forces, a Reservist, or related to someone who is? Have you ever considered using your extensive skill set to work within a hospital or community setting?

Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, (CHFT) is a leader in the digital health revolution. We launched Electronic Patient Record (EPR) in 2017 and CHFT aims to be the safest, most efficient and patient centred trust in the NHS. The launch is part of a 10 -15 year ongoing project of modernisation with future opportunities for research and development in this rapidly developing field of medicine.

Here at CHFT we have a wide range of opportunities to work in an organisation that strives to look after employees in the same way that we look after our patients. We want to be reflective of our local community and to attract a diverse range of talented people.

Skills
We recognise the value of transferable skills that Forces colleagues can bring to CHFT and how these can enhance the care we give to our patients. The Armed Forces’ success is built on teamwork and with more than 350 different career opportunities, ranging from IT and human resources to pharmaceutical and radiography, we believe there are real opportunities for a new career in the NHS. We’re not just about doctors and nurses. We look after all aspects of a patient’s journey and value how we all work together to deliver compassionate care.

As part of our commitment we have been working on improving our engagement with the Armed Forces community. We have held bronze status on the Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for a number of years but recognised there was room for improvement in supporting and attracting talent and retaining Forces colleagues. We began our journey by signing up to the NHS, ‘Step into Health’ commitment, and the Armed Forces Covenant. We have created a staff network to enable us to build relationships and understand what ex-Forces personnel and Reservists look for in an employer.

In February 2020 we gained accreditation from the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) and in August 2020 we were awarded silver status from the Employer Recognistion Scheme (ERS).
