The Ministry of Defence plan to make the Faslane nuclear base sovereign UK territory could always involve a swap …

The British government is looking at ways to make the Scottish base that contains Trident a part of sovereign United Kingdom territory if Scotland votes for independence in next year’s referendum. Relocating Trident could cost up to £20bn and it could take decades to build suitable accommodation so, unsurprisingly, the UK government are not keen to lose the Faslane base near the Clyde. The SNP has reacted angrily to the news, saying that Trident would be removed as soon as possible.

If the British government can claim the base as sovereign territory, what area could England give Scotland in return? Perhaps we could give them Chipping Norton, the David Cameron/Rebekah Brooks stomping ground, recently voted one of the country’s crappest towns? Maybe you’d be happy to see London, or a home county turned over to Holyrood rule? And is a Scottish nuclear base really the best location to designate as UK sovereign territory? Would you prefer it was Glasgow, or Torridon? Tell us what parts of England you’d be happy to trade with Scotland.
