Launch Your Mission Aviation Career Today

Off By Mia Craven

For those who feel called by the Lord to combine technical skill with purpose, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) offers unique career opportunities to make lasting impact in some of the world’s most remote locations.

MAF is the world’s largest humanitarian air operator. Since 1945, we have been flying light aircraft over jungles, mountains, swamps, and deserts. Our pilots and personnel deliver relief workers, doctors, pastors, schoolbooks, food, medicines – everything that can only be safely and speedily delivered by air.

Through our established training schemes based at our Mission Aviation Training Centre (MATC) in the Netherlands, we’re equipping the next generation of pilots, engineers, and flight operations specialists to keep our mission moving.

And it’s not just trainees; we’re always in need of talented, experienced professionals in IT, HR, fundraising, finance, marketing and other support areas, to help keep our planes in the air. If you have been asking God how you could use your skills to serve Him, why not explore your sense of calling with us?

MAF Engineer Training Scheme (ETS)

Behind every safe flight is a skilled engineer. The MAF Engineer Training Scheme (ETS) is a multi-year development pathway designed for individuals seeking a long-term engineering career with MAF. This scheme trains and develops the next generation of aircraft engineers who will support MAF’s global fleet in remote and resource-limited regions.

  • What makes ETS unique?
  • Participants gain recognised qualifications, starting with a degree in aviation maintenance engineering.
  • Training includes hands-on experience with UK partner organisations and, where possible, placements at MAF maintenance facilities overseas.
  • Beyond technical excellence, ETS prepares engineers for the operational, cultural, and spiritual environment of humanitarian aviation.
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in aviation, be an active Christian with a sense of calling toward Christian mission, and a permanent right to live and work in the UK. A background of A-Level or at least GCSE qualifications in maths and physics is recommended.

ETS has a proven track record of developing engineers who go on to serve with MAF worldwide, supported by ongoing mentorship and integration into the international engineering community.

MAF Future Pilot Programme (FPP)

Dream of flying for a purpose? The MAF Future Pilot Programme (FPP) is designed for those who feel called to mission aviation but are at an early stage in their flying journey. Whether you have zero flying hours or just a spark of interest, FPP provides tailored guidance to help you navigate the path toward becoming an operational MAF pilot.

  • What does FPP offer?
  • Step-by-step guidance on training routes, flight schools, required licences, and experience-building.
  • Pastoral support and mentoring, introducing you to the ethos and realities of mission flying.
  • A clear roadmap from zero hours to achieving a commercial pilot’s licence and meeting MAF’s pilot standards.
  • Applicants should have a commitment to long-term mission, a permanent right to live and work in the UK, and an interest in bush flying, cross-cultural work, and Christian humanitarian mission. As with ETS, a foundation in maths and physics is helpful for success in pilot training.
