Tent Build Crew Leader

By Lawrie

Website Timber & Canvas Ltd

Timber and Canvas tents and tipis. Wedding structures nationwide

Job Description

We are an alternative structure and event gear hire company providing nordic tipi, sailcloth tent, dome tent and glamping packages, as well as stage, sound and bar equipment to people and companies across the UK. We travel the length and breadth of the country, seeing beautiful places with tight-knit crews. We work hard, but know how important it is for time to relax after good stints of site work.

We are looking for confident crew chiefs to run our builds and take-downs out in the field for our range of event structures. A perfect role for strong leaders, who love getting outside and being active. Though the work is physically demanding, you’ll be getting paid to keep fit, travel the country and have fun, with bonus pay available for good performance.

Both contract and permanent positions for this role are available.

Role Responsibilities

Your role will be to manage the build of our event structures from the initial plotting of positions, right the way through the build process to the installation of finishing touches and internal event and A/V gear. Overseeing your own crew of 3-5 riggers, you will be responsible for getting the job done to schedule and to our customers’ high standards, as well as for client and venue liaison while on site.

You’ll need to get your crews safely to site from base, keep them moving and motivated through a productive build day, before getting them back to base in good time. Following a cycle of 3 weeks of off-base shifts and 1 week back at base, your role will also involve some warehouse work, admin work, and some job and schedule management. There will also be occasional overnight stays (1-2 per month), which you’ll need to be available for.

Person Spec

To apply for the crew chief position, you need:

Strong people skills – with either previous experience of leading teams or demonstrable potential to lead teams.
A good understanding of dealing with customers and helping to keep them on side.
Excellent problem solving and time-management skills, with a proven ability to work within strict timeframes.
A very practical nature, able to think logically about tasks and explain to others.
A valid UK driving licence (Category BE / C desirable)
You will also need to be flexible in your availability, to commit to unusual working hours and occasional overnight stays.

Full training will be given to the right candidates, so previous marquee, stage or events experience is desirable, but not required. We strongly encourage you to apply if you have a valid B+E trailer license.

Crew Chiefs: £22,000-£24,000 base rate with performance based bonus pay
Staff outings, team development activities and opportunities to travel.
Opportunities to progress with the business as it expands nationally.

Our newly renovated warehouse is located near the Trafford Centre, within easy reach of major road networks (M602 and M60).
You will need to have your own transport in order to get to base for your shift departure times.
