His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has presented personnel from 2 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (2 CS Bn REME) with campaign medals following their return from a demanding six-month tour in Afghanistan.
Thousands of people lined the streets of Chepstow on Thursday 17 November as more than 500 members of 1st Battalion The Rifles (1 RIFLES) were granted the freedom of the historic town before receiving their operational medals for service in Afghanistan.

It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Private Thomas Lake, from 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday 20 November 2011.
