CAREER TRANSITION PARTNERSHIP www.ctp.org.uk
The Career Transition Partnership (CTP) is a partnering agreement between theMinistry of Defence (MoD) and global career development/outplacement specialistsRight Management. The MoD contracts the CTP to provide eligible Service leaverswith career transition services as part of their resettlement process, in recognitionthat the transition from the Armed Forces into civilian life can be daunting– particularly for those who joined the Forces straight from school and will neverhave applied for employment anywhere else. The CTP operates ten Regional Resettlement Centres (RRCs) – nine in the UK, one inGermany – and a national Resettlement Training Centre (RTC) at Aldershot. All CTPoffices are linked to a central database of Service leavers, employers and jobs.
There to help you
CTP delivers free resettlement services to all ranks of the British Armed Forces, teaching valuable skills: how to produce a successful CV, interview techniques, researching and applying for jobs – these skills can be used throughout your lifetime, not just to gain your first civilian job! CTP staff understand the military way of life and the challenges you face when making the transition into civilian life. They are there to meet your needs, providing flexible (and free!) support for you. They can provide this support from two years prior to your discharge – and up until two years afterwards!
Workshops and Training Courses
Workshops are usually short, such as the three day Career Transition Workshop or the two day Business Start Up Workshop. Other courses include Options for the Future, and New Horizons. Workshops take place in RRCs. Vocational training courses last between one and five weeks and are delivered at either the RTC in Aldershot (occasionally at the CTP’s RRCs) or through Preferred Suppliers – external training providers that have been vetted and approved by the CTP.You can search for information on workshops and courses from the CTP – and also details of Preferred Suppliers at www.ctp.org.uk.
CTP EVENTS
What Can You get Out of Attending?
The CTP organises events – including Employment Fairs and Industry Awareness Days – throughout the year, both regionally across the UK and in Germany, so that you can learn about:
• Careers available in today’s competitive job market
• The opportunities that await you
• Qualifications and experience you already have or will need
• Different industries
• To network with potential employers
You’re encouraged to take advantage of these so that you’re fully informed and proactive in your resettlement.
Employment Fairs
CTP Employment fairs typically attract between 50 and 80 different employers or employer organisations, whose representatives can answer your questions and provide information on available career opportunities. Employers attend these fairs because they recognise the particular benefits of employing Service leavers; people like you – highly skilled, with strong ‘soft’ skills such as motivation, reliability and discipline. Employment fairs are excellent opportunities to gain ideas about your future career, find out about training options and network with potential employers – remember to take along plenty of copies of your CV as employers will be more than happy to collect CVs from potential candidates for vacancies they have on offer, now and in the future.
Industry Awareness Days
These events focus on a particular industry sector. Several employers will talk about their industry and the opportunities it offers. Normally held in RRCs, the Awareness Days give you a general overview, as well as a chance to meet people and ask specific questions. Some companies will hold informal interviews on the day and, if successful, you could be invited along for a formal interview at a later date. Remember! All these events are run for your benefit, and may just provide that link to the job you want and deserve!
