MOD Police Committee – Terms of reference

The Committee’s main role is to provide independent scrutiny and assurance to the Secretary of State that the Ministry of Defence Police is delivering policing services in accordance with the Ministry of Defence Police Act 1987. In order to perform this role the Committee is required to: Provide scrutiny and guidance to ensure that police powers and authority are impartially and lawfully exercised by the Chief Constable Confirm that MDP is meeting the standards required of a police force Validate that MDP ’s exercise of its authority is responsible, proportionate and impartial Validate that MOD ’s use of the MDP is appropriate in relation to the exercising of policing powers and authority Provide scrutiny and guidance on any other matter in relation to the use of policing powers which fall within the responsibility of the MDP Consider the MDP ’s targets and performance and the Ministry of Defence Police and Guarding Agency’s corporate and business plans as far as required to the exercise the above functions Consider all complaints made against all members of the Chief Officer ranks of the MDP .

MOD launches new Skynet satellite

The extra lines of communication will benefit personnel deployed in Afghanistan and other parts of the world, including the Falklands, Cyprus and on ships at sea. MOD pictures show the moment that Skynet 5D was launched from French Guiana, South America. It is the fourth satellite of the Skynet 5 project to be put into space since 2007 under a £4bn Private Finance Initiative ( PFI ) programme with Astrium , who built the satellite and service providers Astrium Services .

UK policy and development UK policy is that depleted uranium ( DU ) can be used in weapons because it would be wrong to deny our Armed Forces a legitimate and effective capability that can help them achieve their objectives as quickly and safely as possible.
