The world-renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has awarded the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) a grant of £186,250.

The generous grant from the Tattoo will help the RNRMC to continue supporting sailors, marines, veterans and their families, for life.

Located at the historic Edinburgh Esplanade, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an annual international spectacular that sees over 1,200 diverse performers from around the world take part.

Approximately 220,000 people flock to Edinburgh each year to view the Tattoo’s array of inspiring performances with an audience of 100 million watching the coverage worldwide.

Following the Royal Navy’s presentational lead in 2017, the year of the Royal Navy, this year they were on hand to support the RAF’s centenary under the show’s theme ‘The Sky’s the Limit’ with the Royal Marines Band Plymouth taking the lead for the Senior Service.

Every year, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, should it generate excess earnings awards a generous proportion of its surplus to service charities and charitable arts organisations. It is the seventh year that the Tattoo has generously supported the RNRMC.

The RNRMC raises vital funds for those in the naval service who need support after injury, bereavement or illness, whether currently serving or naval veterans. Through grants to ships and units who are deployed, post-service transition, family support and care in old age, the RNRMC is helping to create a world in which serving men and women are supported and their sacrifice is recognised.

Robert Robson OBE, Chief Executive of the RNRMC, said: “Partnerships with wonderfully generous organisations like The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo are invaluable to help continue the important work the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity carries out in support of the United Kingdom’s Naval Family.

We are very proud to have worked with the Tattoo and be supported by them for a number of years. This year’s grant of £186,250 , following the twentieth consecutive sell-out year for the Tattoo, is the largest ever awarded to the RNRMC and will help us take great strides in achieving our mission to ensure that the nation’s sailors, marines and their families are valued and supported, for life.”

Rucelle Soutar, Head of Finance for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo said:
“Charitable giving and social contribution is at the heart of what we do here at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and we are proud to have given away over £10 Million in the 68 years of our history.”

“Since 2011, we have donated almost £700,000 to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, and have helped fund some incredibly worthwhile projects they carry out. The Royal Navy are integral to the workings of the Tattoo, from providing performers, event support staff, and advisers, they are such an important part of our family and we are delighted to be able to give something back to theirs.”
