Ever considered working in the Highlands of Scotland?

NHS Highland is committed to improving health and social care provision across the region, often leading the way by introducing new models and new methods of delivering care. In 2012, for example, they became the first health board in the country to integrate health and social care.

The challenges for NHS Highland are diverse. The geographical area covered by NHS Highland comprises 41% of Scotland’s land mass, making it the largest and most sparsely populated health board in the UK. Sustaining services in remote and rural areas and recruiting and retaining staff, as well as engaging with communities to design services that are fit for the future are their priority.

Around 8,000 voluntary and community groups are based in the Highlands and NHS Highland competes with over 21,000 businesses – many of them well-known global brands – in the labour market.

Nevertheless, life in the Highlands is not all about work. Highland’s capital, Inverness, is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and frequently placed in the top five most desirable places to live.

The vibrancy of the Highland’s cultural and entertainment scene offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy music, the arts, theatre and dance.

Highland’s landscapes lend themselves to outdoor sports and leisure activities such as climbing, golf, fishing, sailing, skiing and hill walking, as well as cycling and mountain biking. Furthermore, the region offers a vibrant mix of cultural traditions, natural heritage and contemporary life, an excellent education system and establishments, including the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), a clean environment, low crime rate, affordable housing, and easy access to anywhere in the UK and elsewhere by air, rail and road links.
