SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has announced that its annual ‘Big Brew Up’ will return between 3rd and 9th October 2016 for the military community, anywhere in the world, to hold a Big Brew Up to raise vital funds for SSAFA’s work. If personnel cannot host a Big Brew Up during that week then they can host one any time before the end of the year.

In preparation, the charity is urgently calling for savvy serving personnel to stand up and be counted and order a fundraising pack by visiting www.ssafa.org.uk/big-brew-up as soon as possible. The pack contains an event guide, A3 and A4 Posters, event invites; flat pack collection tins, balloons and a paying in slip, making it easy for the organiser to get going with the event.

SSAFA is the oldest national, tri-service, military charity in the UK, founded in 1885. The charity supports some 60,000 serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families each year and in 2015 saw an 85% increase in calls to its confidential helpline from serving personnel in need.

To support SSAFA you can organise a Big Brew Up where you are based across the globe – put the kettle on, bake some cakes and ensure SSAFA can continue to provide financial, emotional and practical support to members of the serving community and their families who need a helping hand.

Tegan Jones, SSAFA’s Director of Fundraising says: “This October we are asking the military community to get behind SSAFA and host their own Big Brew Up. It is a fantastic way to catch up with friends and family, try your hand at baking and raise money that will go to a great cause.

“The donations we receive from our supporters help us continue our support to those in need. Those in the Armed Forces have dedicated their lives to keeping this country safe and SSAFA prides itself in being here to help when they need some extra support.”

The charity has volunteers based behind the wire at 68 military bases worldwide – currently 44 in England, 5 in Germany, 5 in Scotland, 5 in Cyprus, 2 in Wales and 1 in each of the following – Northern Ireland, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Gibraltar, Italy and Nepal – ready to support anyone in need who is serving in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force, and their family to meet the unique challenges of military life. SSAFA’s volunteers behind the wire also provide social activities, networking opportunities, family events and welcome packs for new arrivals.

The SSAFA Big Brew Up runs from 3rd – 9th October – to host your own Big Brew Up please register at https://www.ssafa.org.uk/big-brew-up to receive your fundraising pack.
